Debit cards are most useful for…

Yes or no to that new debit card? A few tips could make the decision easier.

Debit cards are useful for small and medium-sized payments and for people who want to pay without cash when shopping, at the cinema, at the gas station etc both at home and abroad, while having the option to withdraw cash at ATMs. They will appeal to people who only want to spend as much money as they have in the bank. Debit cards can only be used when linked to a bank account. Because there are shops which accept debit cards but not credit cards it’s worth carrying both. It's easier to control your withdrawals using debit cards than with credit cards because you generally cannot go overdrawn on your bank account.
